Dear Glen Morris United Church,

Thank you for such an exciting feeling of homecoming you have offered me this past week. It was so wonderful to see so many friendly faces at worship on Sunday morning and I am looking forward to being with you again for worship next month. As we continue to move through this season of Epiphany, may we be like the magi; journeying to find Christ and responding to God’s gift of Emmanuel by offering our own gifts.

May the Peace of Christ be with you on the nights when the cold makes the outside world feel so far away,

May the Peace of Christ be with you when the sunshine blesses your morning and invites you to let the stress or fear or weariness thaw away from your heart,

May the Peace of Christ be with you so that you may carry it out into a world that so desperately needs it,

Yours in Christ,

Rev Michiko

Engage

This past Fall I was invited to contribute to The United Church of Canada’s 40 Days of Engagement on Anti-Racism. I am grateful that the church created this opportunity for me to share my reflections on belonging vs liberation, and my family’s experience of internment during WWII. I also lead a workshop that you can watch by clicking here. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and thanks for engaging!

A Sacred Word

I worried

by Mary Oliver

I worried a lot.

Will the garden grow,

will the riversflow in the right direction,

will the earth turnas it was taught,

and if not how shall

I correct it?

Was I right, was I wrong, will I be forgiven,

can I do better?

Will I ever be able to sing, even the sparrows

can do it and I am, well,

hopeless.

Is my eyesight fading or am I just imagining it,

am I going to get rheumatism,

lockjaw, dementia?

Finally I saw that worrying had come to nothing.

And gave it up.

And took my old body

and went out into the morning,

and sang.
