Hi Glen Morris United Church,

Peace be with you!

I’m currently sitting on a curb outside the Covid-19 testing location close to my home here in Toronto. As I am now finding myself in more situations with in-person gatherings I thought it would be important to ensure I am not an asymptomatic carrier of this deadly virus. The line up is long and I am told it may take hours before I can get tested. I’m grateful that people are patient and are either reading or using their phones to pass the time.

This unexpected wait is just a small reminder of how much our lives have changed. This line is a perfect example of people trying their best to adjust to change with both a sense that life must go on and that life is also on hold. I worry about the children waiting with caregivers and am then reassured by their playfulness and ability to understand the need to wait. I worry about how stressful this experience is for all of us and yet we find ways to share polite and supportive conversation with each other.

May the peace of Christ be with you this week:

During the mundane moments of waiting in line and unexpected delays

During the moments of anxiety and panic when life feels out of control

During moments of joy, contemplation, and rest

In all that you do, may there be peace.

Thought for the Week

“We will not go back to normal. Normal never was. Our pre-corona existence was not normal other than we normalized greed, inequity, exhaustion, depletion, extraction, disconnection, confusion, rage, hoarding, hate and lack. we should not long to return my friends. we are being given the opportunity to stitch a new garment. One that fits all of humanity and nature.”

Yours in Christ,
