Hello Glen Morris,

I am happy to share with you that our first meeting was wonderful. In a way that seemed too appropriate, we began with the beginnings of beginnings: the first creation story seen in the Book of Genesis. (Genesis 1 and 2) Some of the insights and questions we had included:

If inbetween creations like Day and Night there are other things (Dusk, dawn, afternoon, evening), then perhaps we are to understand that there is more than just male and female humans?

God wanted us to eat meat…wait, all creatures ate plants? When did meat eating become a thing? (Spoiler alert: if you come next session I'll touch upon that one)

If God doesn't need to rest, why make the sabbath?

Does any of this catch your interest? Have you been wrestling with ideas like this yourself with this passage of Genesis? If this sort of thing interests you, we are more than happy to have you join us. Please note that this study is not structured to go through book by book but to pick out different scriptures and dig into what God and the Holy Spirit have to say. This means you are welcome to come whenever you can as we will be focusing on something different each time. As Christians, I feel we all have a duty to learn more about our Holy Text by spending time with it in community.

Know that I (Jayden) am happy to consider any passage that has been burning at you to get new perspectives on, so feel free to reach out to me at: jayden.jones@mail.utoronto.ca. You can also email me if you have any accessibility concerns or need to borrow an extra Bible.

Our next meeting is Thursday November 17th at 9:00am at Glen Morris United Church. Next week we'll be diving into the story of Noah and the Flood.

See you there!

Jayden
