Dear Glen Morris United Church,

It has been a joy to ‘bless, break, and share’ with you during this season of Lent. Each week we have been bringing our stories of food, faith, and relationships to the table alongside prayers and reflections. These weeks have highlighted just how much our understanding of God and our sacred text is shaped by conversations about food.

After a season of preparing, the table is now set. I hope that you will come and be part of the feast this weekend whether that is our sunrise service or communion worship service on Easter Sunday.

This is the invitation to the communion table we will be offering on Sunday morning that I want you to hear as a wider invitation to this Easter moment:

This Easter morning, let us come to the table

breathless from running to the tomb,

Hands still smelling like embalming oil and spices,

amazed, still in shock at the Good News

Let us break bread together,

with tears in our eyes that might be joy, that might be grief,

but certainly something holy

Come to this table,

even if nothing makes sense

we can at least nourish our bodies until the next steps become more obvious

Let us break bread together,

because companionship is where we find Christ,

Because this is the feast that has been handed down to us by our ancestors in faith

Because even when universes and worlds have been ended and torn apart by war, we are still called to set a table where all can have their daily bread,

Because one of the best ways to say I love you is to feed someone

This Holy Week,

As the sun sets on a world aching and torn apart by violence, may the Peace of Christ be with us,

As the sun rises in a world still searching and uncertain of how to move forward, may the Peace of Christ be with us,

As the sun rises on a story of hope and resurrection, may the Peace of Christ be with us,

Yours in Christ,

Rev Michiko
