Dear Passing the Peace Readers,
A while ago I shared in a sermon that I was convinced that more than ever we need to be breaking bread with our neighbours. In a world full of division and isolation, sharing a meal helps us feel less alone and inspires us to work together to support each other. A simple hello is friendly, but dinner tables are the places where we can share stories, better understand and appreciate different perspectives, and remind us that we all belong to one another.
So I’m delighted that this Lent we are journeying with Jesus with the theme “Bless Break Share.” How is our faith shaped by the one who called himself the ‘Bread of Life’ and gathered around the table with his disciples, performed miracles to feed the masses, and taught us we do not live on bread alone?
Here’s a video of the reflection I shared last week: Yeast and Other Slow Miracles
This week I want to invite you to help decorate the sanctuary for Lent! Let us set the table together.
Do you have a tablecloth, napkin, dish, or piece of cookware with a story? Please bring the item to church this week. Each week during worship I will be inviting a few people to share about the item they have brought.
May you experience the peace of Christ in the blessing, breaking, and sharing of bread this Lenten season,
Yours in Christ,
Rev Michiko
