May the peace of Christ be with you,

Passing the Peace… and the Ice Cream Too

PSP? Never heard of it. Neither has ninety-five percent of medical professionals, including some neurologists. PSP or Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, CBD - Corticobasal Degeneration are rare and terminal prime of life neurodegenerative diseases with no treatment or cure. They belong to a group of atypical Parkinsonisms–diseases that mimic Parkinson’s early on to include the more familiar ALS-Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or sometimes referred to as MND or Motor Neuron Disease. Atypical Parkinsonisms fall under the umbrella term FTD, also known as frontotemporal dementia, frontotemporal degeneration, or frontotemporal disorders. Whatever the label, patients and their families can only hope for limited symptom management.

May is global PSP Awareness month, CBD Awareness follows behind. As a person with PSP and a global disease advocate, I and many others continue to look for ways to raise PSP-CBD awareness. Awareness creates understanding, understanding creates support, support leads to research and research can lead to treatment and a cure.

A few years ago, I came up with the idea for a PSP-CBD awareness campaign on Facebook. There are several PSP-CBD groups with global membership on that platform… it made perfect sense. The Challenge is to eat ice cream every day or similar frozen treats for the month of May ~ and share the photos to the PSP & CBD Ice Cream Challenge FB page. No effort is too large or too small. We can also share photos with the caption PSP-CBD Ice Cream Challenge for other social media platforms. It’s an easy challenge that’s about having fun whilst helping to raise awareness of PSP-CBD.

As a long time, congregant and past Elder of the Glen Morris United Church, I have seen and continue to witness the selfless work and compassionate efforts by our Church community for the better of others. The GMUC has deep roots, steeped in a rich communal history of stepping up and stepping in where and whenever it can.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful, should the GMUC and its congregation… even the United Church of Canada decide to take on this simple, but meaningful PSP & CBD Ice Cream Challenge? Posting pictures of their Ice Cream Challenge and sharing with others to the PSP & CBD Ice Cream Challenge.

Warmly,

Tim Brown
