Dear Glen Morris United Church,

Thank you to everyone who joined us for worship last week as we took time as a community to reflect on some very challenging scripture verses as part of the Affirming Ministry Process. As a church, I feel it is important that our love of God, our study of scripture, and our experience of the Spirit all remain central in guiding our church in any and all of the decisions we make about how we want to live out our faith together. Your feedback and sincere engagement in what was shared has been a testament to this community’s deep and dedicated discipleship.

As promised, here are some more resources for ongoing learning and reflection. If you are someone who learns best through community and conversation please be in touch - there are lots of opportunities to learn together! Myself and other Affirming Task Group members are always available for more comments, questions, and feedback.

I also want to share with you an important statement that was delivered at the United Church’s General Council meeting which took place this past August. This is a gathering where elected members from across the church gather to make denominational level decisions in terms of policy, theology, and leadership. The Apology to 2S and LGBTQIA+ communities emerged from a number of projects, committees, and more that I have been engaged with for over the past decade. We are still learning as a church what it means to live into this apology - sharing the words with as many as possible has been an important place to start:

I am so delighted that Rev Randy will be leading worship this weekend while I am away. May the peace of Christ be with you on this special Remembrance Day Sunday as you pray for peace and give thanks for all who have and are working to make this world a safer, happier, and more peaceful place for all. Blessed are the peacemakers.

Yours in Christ,

Rev Michiko
