Dear Glen Morris United Church members, friends, and supporters,
It is a real delight to know that so many of you read this newsletter and that you are able to learn about the ministry of this wonderful community each and every week. Please feel free to send your thoughts and responses to me anytime - I really appreciate hearing from you!
For those of you who have not had a chance to join us for worship, part of each week’s gathering involves offering a Territorial Acknowledgement. This is a practice that we’ve embraced as a community of faith for over half a decade, in response to the calls for action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. To recognize that the land on which we gather has an often untold and painful history of displacement, stolen land, separated families helps keep us oriented to the work we are all called to do - especially those of us who are the beneficiaries of this painful legacy.
Last week as we gathered for worship, I extended an invitation for all of us as a community to engage in community events to help us learn more about Indigenous culture and history in our local area. There are two events I hope you will consider joining me for:
Hosted by Western Ontario Waterways Regional Council: You're warmly invited to this special event featuring Adrian Jacobs of the Turtle Clan, Cayuga Nation, sharing on the Spiritual Covenant—a reflection on land, relationship, and reconciliation.
Adrian Jacobs will offer a leadership in this workshop and communion service that will inform and inspire the discernment of churches on any traditional territory who wish to consider concrete action to live into their acknowledgment of territory. The workshop and worship will be grounded in history and scripture, and will invite you to deeper relationship with the land and the peoples on the land, and the Creator, Christ and Spirit.
You can register in advance here: Meeting Registration - Zoom

Please let me know if you plan to attend so we can coordinate carpooling and/or gathering together on site.
As we walk the path of reconciliation together, may the Peace of Christ be with us,
Yours in Christ,
Rev Michiko
