This has been a remarkable year! What else, really, can we say about it? It didn’t exactly go as we had initially planned but that is life – so they say.

The only UCW event that took place this year was in February (a distant memory now) when Lynn took the chimes to Telfer Place for an interactive concert and lesson. It was a great event. Then COVID shut the world down and our new normal began.

This is the first year we haven’t gathered together as a community of women to celebrate all that we have and are able to share with others. Thankfully, the Bazaar Committee of Margaret, Marion and Sandra came up with the idea of having us donate the money we would normally spend at the bazaar and in preparing items for sale there, towards the work of the UCW in the church and around the world.  We raised $3360.00! WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT. Congratulations and thank you to all.

The executive of the UCW met on Monday, November 30th to decide how we would move forward with both a financial and social plan that supports the vision of the UCW.

Socially – as we don’t see that we will be physically getting together in the near future (but have faith the end is in sight!) we would like to have a zoom Coffee and Conversation meeting on Saturday, January 16, at 10am. We can catch up with everyone we have missed seeing and visiting with. A link will be shared closer to the time.

Our Annual General Meeting will also need to be via zoom and will be on February 3rd – time and link to be determined.

Our bank balance, as of November 30th, is $7000.25. As for our financial commitment for 2020 we have the following proposal which leaves us an operating balance of $3020.25:

~ $1000 to the  Glen Morris United Church, Accessibility and Renovation Committee
~ $1000 to the operating cost of the church for lighting in the sanctuary in memory of UCW women from this community who have lighted   our way in the past
~  $200 to Pride Stables
~ $200 to Nova Vita
~ $200 to True North Aid
~ $80 to Grandmothers in Africa Campaign
~ $140 to Lebanon Educational Foundation
~ $100 to Sleeping Children Around the World in memory of Audrey Stratford
~  $100 gift to Michiko to thank them for their support this year

We have a new face on the executive as Margaret McPherson will be taking on the role of vice president. We are so grateful to her AND to Karen Murray-Hopf who has had this position this past year but has moved to the role of communications co-ordinator.

Jayne Miller will be our new representative for stewards.  Thank you, Jayne for this.

We wish you all a Happy and especially Healthy Christmas and New Year.

Sincerely,  The UCW Executive

Deb Fraser, Lynn McRuer, Brenda Totten and Margaret McPherson
