It will be a great time of food, fun and connection as the Glen Morris Lions Club, Horticulture Society and United Church come together to present the annual Glen Morris Community BBQ, set to happen Sunday, August 10 at Centennial Hall, 17 Dunbar Street. Gather your family, pack the lawn chairs, reusable dishes and cutlery and join your neighbours as the Lions fire up the BBQ offering burgers and sausage (GF and Veggie options available), while Horticulture members provide salads, desserts and cold beverages. The food is free, but donations are gratefully accepted. There will be a time to hear about all that is available in this community, as well as a few words from local dignitaries. The church will have a kid's craft area making items for a parade that will begin about 6:15pm in preparation for ‘The Voice of the River’: The Grand River Community Play Project. Then, all will proceed to the Eric Tomlinson River Access at the trailhead on Forbes Street to watch this community play which includes, singing (including our choir!), pipes, drumming, giant puppets, banners, current and historic stories and so much more! Under the direction of Peter Smith, CEO of the Canadian Centre for Rural Creativity, this play will be presented in communities up and down the length of this heritage Grand River during the month of August, with each community having created something unique to them. Residents of the Glen and district have been working on this amazing project for over two years, and it is wonderful to finally see it come to fruition. You don’t need to be from Glen Morris to come and enjoy this riverside production! For more information, email Karen at glenmorris.uc@gmail.com.
