Dear Glen Morris United Church,
Peace be with you! We were so blessed to enter into the season of Lent with a joyful and delicious fun of Shrove Tuesday - thank you so much for all of you who served and attended! I’m so glad that pancakes can be a reason to gather and enjoy our community.
We now enter into Lent, a season of journeying with Jesus, as we continue to reflect on how his ministry can teach us something about who we are called to be today. If you’re anything like me, you’ve had a moment or two lately where you’ve felt the need to say or do something about the tragedies in the news, felt unsure where to put your precious time and energy in a world where we need to take care of ourselves, our loved ones, our neighbours… it’s a lot! Maybe you’ve felt the need to do something but wondered if one phone call or signing another petition would make the difference you know is needed. I hear you.
This is why for Lent this year we are returning to the kitchen table to Bless, Break, and Share. Just as Jesus gathered with his disciples to share in a meal on their last night together - we as Christians are part of a faith tradition where we build community through the breaking of bread. It’s simple but profound - let us pay attention to the ways we are nurturing one another as a community of faith and reflect on what kind of nurturing we each are seeking in our own journeys with faith.
So this Lent, let us break bread together. Sit around the table and share some tea. Take time to check in on our neighbours and find God amidst the flour, yeast, and water.

Looking forward to breaking bread with you at Telfer Place this Sunday,
Peace be with you,
Rev Michiko
