Dear Glen Morris United Church,

I think this week I reached a significant milestone in my transition from city life to living in the Glen as I earnestly prayed for rain and felt God’s blessing as I awoke this morning to a light drizzle outside.

I’ve made an assumption this week in preparing worship that we might all be feeling a little anxious, sad, and/or overwhelmed by the poor air quality caused by the drifting smoke from forest fires in northern Ontario this past week. I hope you will join me this Sunday in singing and praying for our beloved creation as we take time to acknowledge all of these tough feelings that come up when the climate crisis impacts us personally and strengthen our resolve to care for Creation together.

If you’re wanting to learn more about how people of faith from across the country are working for ecological justice, check out the Climate Action Week resources and blogs created by KAIROS, an ecumenical organization doing amazing work on a variety of justice issues.

Whether your relationship with God feels as messy as the construction happening in my front yard or as abundant and promising as a walk along the rail trail please know that you are most welcome to join us for worship this Sunday.

May the peace of Christ be with you, like a gentle breeze blowing through tall grass,

May the peace of Christ be with you, like soft rain on dry earth,

Yours in Christ,

Rev Michiko
