Dear Beloved Readers,
Peace be with you. I hope that this newsletter finds you well. These cold days of winter can feel harsh and I give thanks for brilliant sunshine and weekly worship for sources of warmth this time of year especially.
February is Black History Month! While every day is a good day to engage in the work of eliminating racism, Black History Month is a great invitation to be intentional about learning more about Black culture, history, present day realities, and more.
Within the United Church a special exhibit has been created to showcase the contributions of Black people within the church, amplifying voices that have long been overshadowed by the dominant narrative. The exhibit is currently on display at Georgian Shores United Church but luckily for us it has also been made available online through a video format. You can learn all about this project by clicking here.
This Sunday we will be reflecting on insights from this showcase so I hope you have a chance to take a look beforehand.
As I write this, I am also aware that many of us have heavy hearts after the tragic school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, BC earlier this week. I have included a prayer from the Chinook Winds Pacific Mountain Region’s youth and young adult ministry and ask that you join me in praying together for healing during such a difficult time.

Yours in Christ,
Rev Michiko
